Chronic non-communicable diseases, such as cancer and heart disease, remain a major public health problem in Indonesia. Many of these conditions are aggravated by poverty and lack of formal community health structures. Consequently, most patients are treated at home by family members without expert support from nurses and physiotherapists.
In Indonesia, strong familial bonds and cultural values of gotong royong mutual assistance underpin high levels of family involvement in caring for their ill relatives. In this context, trained CHVs with initiatives that are in accordance with local cultural values could be a valuable resource in the palliative cancer care process.
The CHVs in this study performed a variety of tasks, including identifying the tanda-tanda vitals of their patient and providing them with medication and terapi, monitoring pain levels, documenting medical records, visiting patients at home to provide Care pro home care indonesia and to monitor their condition, and communicating with doctors and physiotherapists to ensure optimal care for their patient.
