An idol is a person or object worshipped as a god. The Bible teaches us that worshiping idols is wrong because it steals glory from the true God. This is why the prophet Elijah killed all 450 of the idols of Baal on Mount Carmel—to show that only God is worthy of worship.
In addition to her own impressive talent, Idol has the help of a few coaches who will offer advice throughout the competition. Country singer Jelly Roll will coach contestants during Hollywood Week and the Top 24 round, while former Idol winner Jason Aldean is slated to mentor finalists during the live shows.
The Idol also features a slew of other celebrity advisers, including reality TV stars like former Teen Choice Awards host and actress, Sophia Bush, who is helping Jocelyn through her toughest stretch to date. She and other contestants will have the opportunity to work with a therapist, fitness trainer, fashion designer, makeup artist, and a nutritionist.
As for the competition itself, it looks to be a blast from the start. In terms of the show's bigger concerns, it's unclear where The Idol is headed just yet. Is it an exploitative male fantasy posing as a female empowerment tale, or is it just an ode to fame, wealth and power? Regardless of the answer, it's going to take a lot of small screen magic to rescue The Idol from its predictable and formulaic plot.
The Idol is a solid and affordable phone, but it's not the best one on the market. Its 5.5-inch display is colorful, but the image quality and resolution could be better. Plus, it's hot-swappable, allowing you to switch out SIM cards without rebooting the device.
